The ultimate private island paradise to unveil complete design transformation
Jumby Bay Island will emerge from a meticulous refurbishment for the 2018/19 winter season, with a fresh Caribbean Ocean-inspired look and feel.

Set in one of the most beautiful, untouched locations in the world, Jumby Bay Island is a 300-acre private island of simple pleasures in the Caribbean nation of Antigua and Barbuda. Having joined the prestigious Oetker Collection in late 2017, under new management the resort will now undergo an inspired restoration programme to inject a new lease of life into the much-loved island. A slick, fresh new look will be revealed when the resort re-opens for the winter season in October 2018.
Setting the scene – one of the world’s most naturally beautiful destinations
Ringed with coral reefs, and easily accessed by a short private boat transfer from mainland Antigua with not a car in sight, this secluded isle of white-powdered beaches and winding bicycle paths is a one-of-a-kind hideaway. Among discerning travellers, Jumby Bay Island is known as ‘the jewel in the crown of Caribbean resorts’, encapsulating everything about a far-flung hideaway – with secluded sun-kissed beaches lapped by pristine turquoise waters; private sand-side picnics; and barefoot walks across Jumby’s long golden sand bar that gives the illusion that it is floating in the open sea.
Design overview – laidback tropical style paired with light, bright colours & textures
Renowned Brazilian interior designer - Patricia Anastassiadis of Anastassiadis Arquitetos - is responsible for the project, having created a bespoke design concept for Oetker Collection sister property, Palácio Tangará which opened to great acclaim in Brazil last year. Combining the finest aesthetic finishes to high-spec functional technology, the redesigned Jumby Bay will strike a balance between laidback tropical style and a casual elegance, with light and airy tones paired with lush greenery, reflecting the island’s natural beauty and evoking a feeling of refined, relaxed luxury. Rattan furniture and nautical-inspired rope-like textures will adorn the new spaces. The renovations will put a contemporary spin on the resort’s informal tradition, with each change made with the guest experience in mind.
The heart of the hotel, the Veranda will now be even more welcoming with the launch of a new Italian restaurant and stylish retail boutique, as well as a face-lift for existing public areas such as the Lounge, bar and reception. Inspiration for these areas has been drawn from the sky and the sea, where light natural textures are weaved with statuarietto marble to create a cool and calm aesthetic. The Lounge will be peppered with tasteful historical artefacts including a striking golden seahorse sculpture, which juxtaposes the new sleek furniture from Anastassiadis’ own range. Jumby Bay will also welcome a renewed beachfront restaurant, The Jumby Bay Veranda which will combine elegant Italian dining in a traditional Caribbean setting. Handmade maritime rope sculptures will embellish the walls perfectly complementing charcoal drawings of the island’s local flora and fauna, while a classic antique pale wood canoe pays homage to the indigenous Arawak Indians in the Caribbean.
Of course, no private island experience would be complete without a chic destination store, and the enhanced Boutique at Jumby Bay will meet each guests’ need. Interiors will be styled in calm hues of grey with rustic gold and natural leaf green accents, while original wooden surfboards and straw leaf fans will line the walls and ceiling. The boutique will be stocked by Oetker Collection’s lifestyle brand, Eden Being and will sell the latest exclusive design collaborations from brands such as Anya Hindmarch, Orlebar Brown and Love Brand exclusively for Jumby Bay Island.
Patricia Anastassiadis comments: “Delicacy, beauty, exclusivity and luxury are some of the adjectives that define Jumby Bay. A pearl in the middle of the Caribbean Sea, a small portion of land surrounded by fine white sand. Inspiration comes from the nature and history of the locals. The concept of the project brings together many English traditions combined with contemporary joy and relaxation in the Caribbean. Leather, weaves, straws and manual work with impeccable finishing brings the essence of the Oetker Collection to the property.”
Take to the water – a new beachfront infinity pool & watersports centre
A new beachfront infinity pool will be shaded by lush palm trees and lined with neutral slate tiles which perfectly blend into the surroundings. Guests will be able to recline on teak deck chairs before deciding whether to take a dip in the pool or the sea, mere steps away. Surrounded by crystal clear waters and with over four miles of immaculate beach, Jumby Bay is a paradise for watersports enthusiasts of all ages and abilities. Just beyond the new pool will be a sleek new watersports center, 22 Knots – The Jumby Bay Watersports Center, a whitewashed Pavilion with creamy limestone floors and a marine theme running throughout. This will be a place for adventurous guests to grab a paddleboard or hire Jumby’s 45-foot custom built catamaran to explore the natural beauty of the island, while those who would rather take it slow can borrow a paddle board or snorkel – weekly leisurely snorkelling trips to nearby wildlife haven Bird Island are a real highlight. Antigua is also famed as world-class sailing destination with the longest running regatta in the Caribbean, and brand-new for the 2018/19 winter season Jumby Bay will debut a Sailing Academy for beginners to experienced sailors staying on Jumby Bay Island enabling them to enjoy our unique setting with strong trade winds and calm sees that make the area excellent for sailing. The Club will facilitate guest and residence community interaction. The Jumby Bay Sailing Academy is being created to provide accredited instructional training for all ages, expertly equipped with RS Elite sailing boats and RS Zest sailing boats.
And, relax… in Jumby’s world-class destination spa
The Jumby Bay Spa will be the ultimate sanctuary providing a truly tranquil setting for guests to while away a spa day, revived with a beautiful new relaxation area, dry and wet/hot and cold sauna and plunge pool, in addition to two double and three single treatment rooms. The vaulted ceilings and stone entryways have been inspired by the islands own sugar mill and carry the scent of the neighbouring tropical gardens. The updated interiors are perfectly befitting this newly enhanced chapter in the history of Jumby Bay, using natural wood panelling and a colour palette of calming greys, blues and greens. Signature treatments will be inspired by indigenous natural ingredients and performed before dramatic ocean views, using both traditional and modern therapeutic spa methods to offer a unique Jumby Bay spa experience.
Jumby Bay Island’s fresh, contemporary style will bring a touch of modernity to the property, while maintaining the identity that its loyal guests and island residents have come to know and love.
