Oetker Collection Masterpiece Hotels celebrate and honour the environment, our oceans and precious biodiversity all year long. We’re particularly proud to celebrate two important days this month. World Environment Day, today, and World Oceans Day on June 8th. These EU initiatives inspire action to protect our delicate marine and natural resources.
World Environment Day is celebrated on June 5th every year. It encourages governments, businesses, celebrities and global citizens to focus efforts on a pressing environmental issue. The theme this year is biodiversity. An environmental issue we hold very dear to our hearts and are very happy to celebrate today.
With 1 million species facing extinction, there has never been a more important time to focus energy and attention on biodiversity. Our Masterpiece Hotels around the world work with a local charity to support our natural environment. Many have their own gardens and protect delicate ecosystems for animals and insect populations. At Le Bristol in Paris, you can enjoy immune-boosting honey from the hotel’s resident beehive and relax in a tranquil courtyard, rich in biodiversity.
Château Saint-Martin & Spa in the South of France has launched its own olive oil, made with the olives from the organic trees that grow on the property. The team also celebrates #ApiDays, also known as World Bee Day, training staff how to collect honey from beehives in the hotel gardens.
Earth Hour is another important date in the Oetker Collection calendar. We participate every year to raise awareness around climate issues. Exiting events include thorough ‘clean up days’ to keep beaches and the lush natural habitats that surround our distinctive hotels clean.
World Oceans Day
World Oceans Day takes place annually on the 8th of June and it’s one of the most important days of celebration for our waterfront jewels, Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc, Jumby Bay Island and Eden Rock-St Barths. On this important day, we join the global community in honouring our precious blue planet. We’re proud to inspire our teams and guests to take action to protect the ocean and sustainably use marine resources.
Conservation and Protection
At the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc and Jumby Bay Island, we support the conservation of local turtle populations. On the Côte d’Azur, our Grande Dame collaborates with L’Espace Mer et Littoral, an organisation that works to protect the Mediterranean Turtle population. And in beautiful St Barths, our team are busy restoring important marine habitats that surround this island. This vital work includes the protection of mangroves and supporting coral reef restoration. Other projects include supporting the Sargasse Project: an innovative, home-grown initiative to transform dried seaweed into paper.
Our energy and passion drive our Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives, and we are always seeking out innovative new ways to support the health and wellbeing of our planet and its people.
