Janine is the Culture and Internal Communications Manager at Brenners Park-Hotel & Spa, and a passionate rose gardener and amateur rose breeder.
In this video, Janine comes to us from the lush grounds at Brenners to share a traveller’s tip about one of her favourite places to visit in Baden-Baden, the gorgeous Rose Society Garden…
Why not plant your own rose garden at home? Janine offers her simpleand practical tips for planting a potted rose. (Note: Bare root roses are only available from late fall through the winter months. In the spring, local nurseries offer potted roses for planting.)
. Begin by watering your potted rose generously.
. Prepare the soil by digging a hole deep and wide enough to accommodate the roots.
. Gently place your rose into the hole, making sure the roots have plenty of room, without sinking or poking out from the ground.
. Refill the hole with soil.
. Water the rose generously to ensure there are no air pockets in the soil.
Insider tips from Janine:
“I avoid using any fertilizer in the first year to promote strong root growth rather than blooming. If you’re looking for an outstandingly healthy, easy to grow and hardy rose, I recommend ‘Jude the obscure’by David Austin Roses. It has a beautifully soft, almost antique pink colour and an absolutely intoxicating fragrance!”
Thank you for your rosy tips, Janine!
