Paris is the birthplace of the grand magasin and Le Bon Marché is the original (and one of our absolute faves). Embodying the creative and modern spirit of the Rive Gauche, the vast department store has been an emporium of good taste since it was first opened in 1852 by an enterprising milliner called Aristide Boucicaut. Now under the wing of the LVMH Group, Le Bon Marché houses the world’s most sought-after brands across its fashion, accessories, beauty and home departments. The vast and exquisitely appointed store also features a lofty bookshop for intellectual stimulation and a sublime épicerie that will invariably stimulate your appetite with its sweet and savoury delicacies. It’s an utter cliché, but a trip to Paris is absolutely incomplete without a jaunt through Le Bon Marché.
