Japanese Coffee Culture in London: Omotesando Koffee

Omotesando Koffee is the first European outpost of a special Japanese chain that began as a one-man operation in Tokyo. The small shop is a master class in Japanese minimalism, offering an ascetic atmosphere of light wood interiors and an abbreviated menu of coffee, espresso drinks and coffee mixed with Japanese green tea. The shop also serves a restrained selection of food including egg sandwiches made with razor sharp Japanese omelette and a sweet pastry called kashi. Everything is studied at Omotesando—from the coffee beans they use, to the way they’re roasted, to the espresso machine that pulls them, to the barista who serves each cup. You may not associate Japanese culture with delicious coffee, but Omotesando proves the contrary. This small but mighty coffee shop in Fitzrovia is an inspiring place to get caffeinated.
