Set in one of the most beautiful untouched locations in the world, Jumby Bay Island is a private island of simple pleasures in the Caribbean nation of Antigua & Barbuda, just two miles off mainland Antigua.
Under the management of the prestigious Oetker Collection since 2017, the resort has just completed phase two of its inspired restoration programme to inject a new lease of life into the much-loved island, following the renovation of all public areas, restaurants, spa and a new watersports centre last year. A slick, fresh new look has now transformed 28 suites which will be unveiled when the resort re-opens for the winter season next month.
Studio brings the outside in, with a fresh island-inspired new design & colour palette
President of Studio IDC, Stephanie Tyler and her team have worked with Jumby Bay over the last two decades, as well as having designed a number of the Private Residences on the island. In 2009, Studio IDC worked closely with MCM Architecture on the design of guestrooms and all public areas and now, 10 years on, is delighted to have returned to redesign 28 beautiful suites and create a fresh new guest experience, as well as update an artistic perspective on what makes Jumby Bay Island authentic. Continuing the tradition of obscuring the boundaries of interior and exterior spaces, Todd Tyler, Senior Interior Designer led the concept of a modern curated design to create a new environment for discerning guests, with a new look for 16 Beachside Suites, 10 Pool Suites and two Estates Suites, blurring the lines between indoor and outdoor spaces. The aim was to create a bridge from the interior-island landscape of the ponds and waterfowl sanctuary outward to the pristine ocean waters. The fresh colour palette is a combination of the island’s soft blush sunsets, lush foliage and crisp cool blues, giving the refreshed suites their own identity of sanctuary and repose. Natural materials, woven textures and local botanical inspiration highlight the unforgettable moments created on the private island. Just steps away from the pristine white beaches, each accommodation is a tranquil oasis offering spectacular views of the Caribbean Sea.
One of the world’s most naturally beautiful destinations
Ringed with coral reefs and easily accessed by a short private boat transfer from mainland Antigua, with not a car in sight, this dreamlike isle of white-powdered beaches and winding bicycle paths is a one-of-a-kind hideaway. Among discerning travellers, Jumby Bay Island is known as ‘the jewel in the crown of Caribbean resorts’, encapsulating everything about a far-flung hideaway with secluded sun-kissed beaches lapped by pristine turquoise waters; private sand-side picnics; and barefoot walks across Jumby’s long golden sand bar that gives the illusion that it is floating in the open sea. Surrounded by lush tropical foliage, Jumby Bay Island spans 300 private acres and is home to 4.5 miles of pristine shoreline, with the main resort presiding over some of the most fiercely protected beaches in the Caribbean.
