Bettina Eggenschwiler was born and raised in Switzerland and comes from a long line of Swiss hoteliers. Like several members of her family, she graduated from the prestigious Ecole Hoteliere de Lausanne (EHL) and never considered pursuing a career outside of hospitality. There is one quality that set her apart, however, and that is the desire to live and work abroad.
After completing an internship at Baur au Lac in Zurich, Bettina moved to Berlin to begin what would ultimately become an international career. From Berlin, she made the transatlantic leap to join the front office team at The Pierre, a Taj Hotel. After a few years in New York, Bettina transferred to Taj 51 Buckingham Gate in London where she worked as Duty Manager for two years before The Lanesborough invited her to join the butler team upon its grand re-opening in 2015.
Bettina accepted the new mission with enthusiasm and aplomb. She was promoted to Senior Butler in March 2018, and then to Head Butler just one year later, in April.
“I love working with my team to create magical moments for our guests,” says Bettina.
The Lanesborough is the only remaining hotel in London to offer a 24-hour butler service for every room and suite. Guests have come to rely on the service, and Bettina is passionate about delivering it at the highest level.
“We get to know our return guests over time and some of them request a specific butler during their stay,” Bettina adds. “I enjoy seeing how guests take advantage of the service– from requesting a butler’s presence and advice during a shopping trip to inviting one to join in on a family picnic at Hampstead Heath. These are the meaningful encounters that The Lanesborough is known for.”
