Ultra Healthy Summer Snack: Turmeric-Sesame Hummus

Homemade hummus is one of the most fun-to-eat sources of vegetarian protein that exist. Why not pack yours with even more health-giving goodness? Our Turmeric-Sesame Hummus recipe combines the traditional hummus ingredients with a dash of turmeric—the super spice that improves adrenal function and aids digestion—for a healthy boost and bold yellow colour, and sesame seeds for a smooth, nutty flavour. We enjoy ours with fresh cut veggie sticks like carrot, cucumber and radish, and gluten-free crackers.

Here’s how it’s made…

1 400g tin chickpeas

5 teaspoons sesame oil

5 teaspoons cold water

Juice of 1.5 lemons

2 teaspoons tahini paste

1 teaspoon ground caraway seeds

1 clove garlic

1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda

1 teaspoon turmeric

1 teaspoon sesame seeds

Salt to taste

Place all ingredients together in a blender or food processor and blend until desired smoothness is reached. Enjoy!
