Gönneranlage Park in Baden-Baden gives any English garden a run for its money with its fragrant array of over 10,000 roses from 400 different species—in bloom from May until October each year.
Bearing names like Caprice, Swan Lake and Magic Love, the gorgeous roses were originally dedicated to the lucky wife of Hermann Sielcken, a German coffee baron who constructed the park in her honour at the turn of the 20thcentury. The name Gönneranlage—well—it’s after Baden-Baden’s Lord Mayor of the time, Albert Gönner, but we’re confident that Madame Sielcken knew who the real muse was. The garden is also dotted with outdoor sculptures and a stately fountain at its centre. Recommended for a peaceful morning walk just after the park opens.
