For an authentic local experience in São Paulo, be sure to check out the art and antiques fair in Benedito Calixto Square.
Over 320 vendors take over the square every Saturday from 9am to 7pm, selling everything from handmade crafts and clothes to antique furniture and vintage electronics. It’s the work of an afternoon to peruse all of the stalls, but the astute shopper usually walks away with a keepsake or two. The fair also features a food court serving local specialties like tacacá soup, acarajé fritters and pastel pies. And at around 2pm, a band sets up to play live Brazilian chorinho music. The rhythms energise the already bustling bazaar, creating an ambiance that is truly unique to São Paulo. Even the Mari Kondoite minimalist will find something they love here.
